Earn credit
Did you know EF is the first and only international travel company to have all of our tours accredited? And you can benefit. Get a competitive edge in school when you earn high school credit by completing coursework on your EF tour. And with more colleges putting a greater emphasis on global awareness, you know you’ll make an impact on your college application!
EF’s course was created by educators and approved by EF Educational Tours’ educational advisory board. The course requirements include 60 hours of preparation, as well as on-tour work and post-tour reflective analysis.
How does the high school credit program work?
- You must be enrolled on an EF Educational Tour and enroll in EF’s credit program (Note: A $100 fee applies. This has been waived through the 2009 travel season, so it’s FREE!)
- Pre-tour: You read fiction and non-fiction literature and complete pre-tour coursework in travel journals.
- On-tour: You complete a photo assignment and several standards-correlated travel journal assignments.
- Post-tour: You write essays on the books you’ve read, answer reflective questions associated with your tour experience and complete two thematic essays.
- Grading: In order to earn credit, you must pass this course with a letter grade based on a teacher’s assessment.
- In total, the credit program requires at least 100 hours of coursework, which is the equivalent of one semester’s work.
- Participating school administration must approve EF coursework for credit. We recommend you seek prior approval before your tour.
How to register
To register for credit, you must be enrolled on an EF Educational Tour. Then, you can login to your account and fill out the “Register to earn high school credit” enrollment form located in Forms and Resources in My Tours.
Accreditation
EF is the only international educational travel company to be accredited by the Commission on Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA), the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools (MSCES) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. This means that all of EF’s international and domestic tours have been recognized for their quality and educational value, meeting the same rigorous standards as the best schools across the United States.
Through a unique partnership with Eastern Washington University, EF is able to offer students the opportunity to earn valuable college academic credit while traveling on an EF Educational Tour.
EWU International Field Studies Program
Earning academic credit with EWU enhances every part of the educational experience—before, during, and after an EF tour. Credits are fully transferable and will be documented on an official transcript.
Eastern Washington University's International Field Studies Program was established to provide students who are participating in educational travel programs with the opportunity to increase their understanding and tolerance of foreign people and places, develop confidence in themselves as world observers, and expand their appreciation of education as part of their vital partner in achieving educational goals.
